Breed Bio: American Staffordshire Terrier

The American Staffordshire Terrier (AmStaff) is a medium sized, short coated breed that was officially recognized by the AKC in 1936. They can range anywhere from 40-60lbs, and their coat has a wide variety of acceptable patterns and colors.

Early ancestors of the breed came from England, near where Bull Dogs were originally bred. AmStaffs then began to find their way into America in 1870, with the breed popularity experiencing a sharp decline post Worls War II.

AmStaff's are a people oriented dog that thrive when given a job. They are incredibly loyal to their families, and are great with children, even known as the nurse maid dog for many years.
