Breed Bio: Chihuahua

The chihuahua is one of the dog breeds that seemingly everyone is familiar with. Recognized in 1904 by the American Kennel Club, the chihuahua comes in nine various colors with six types of markings. They can be long or short haired, are generally under 10lbs, and do not have a "standard" height.

Chihuahuas are thought to have originiated from a companion dog of the Toltec, called the Techichi, though only pottery and artwork exist to support this theory from before the 9th century.

Though their breed has fewer genetic issues than other pure breds, chihuahuas do have dental problems due to their small jaws. They can also have issue with the soft spots on their heads improperly fusing.

Chihuahuas fiercly bond to one person, and are generally best suited for adult homes without children. If properly socialized early and often, they can learn to bond with more than one person.
