Breed Bio: Persians

Persians a breed favored by royalty, and the most popular breed in the United States. They are though to have originated from the African wildcat and were smuggled out of Persia (modern day Iran) in the 17th century by European explorers.

Their round face, long thick coat, and short legs are all characteristic traits of the Persian. Contrary to popular belief, the smushed look to the face is not a breed standard, and has actually been over bred in North America. Tradional Persians do not have the "peke" look, but have the wide set ears and large eyes that the breed is known for.

Generally the cats are quiet and adopt well to apartment life, though the subset of Himalayans can tend to be mousers.
